A vasectomy is an in-office, minimally invasive procedure of sterilization of men. It is a permanent form of birth control that can be reversed but a successful reversal cannot be guaranteed for everyone, which is why it is considered permanent. This procedure prevents the release of sperm into semen during ejaculation.
At Stellar Men's Health, we utilize the scalpel-free technique to perform vasectomies. The doctor makes a tiny incision to access the vas deferens on both sides instead of a cut with a scalpel. The vas deferens' ends are clamped off. The small hole heals quickly. There is minimal pain. There is decreased risk for infection with the smaller incision.
Does the procedure hurt?
-There is minimal pain as a local anesthetic is used to numb the area using a needle-free technique. An anti-anxiety medication can be given prior to if necessary.
What is recovery like?
You should rest and avoid strenuous activity for 48 hours. Apply an ice pack for 20 minutes on and off if/when feeling discomfort.

When can I have sex again?
Most men rest for a few days and resume normal activities once comfortable. Continue using another form of birth control until it is confirmed that semen is absent from the sperm by the doctor.
Will I have a decreased sex drive?
Your sex drive should remain the same. Some men report having an increase drive as the concern for pregnancy is gone.
Are there any risks?
There is a risk for infection as it is for any invasive procedure, but the risk is low. The physician discusses any individual risks a patient may have based on health history thoroughly before the procedure.
